Gladioli in the Nanus group are smaller, more delicate forms of this traditional garden favorite, and therefore allow the gardener to forget about staking and just enjoy the strong, slender spikes of color. As blossoms fade, you can nip them off with your fingers and keep the flowering stem looking fresh and beautiful. Plant Gladiolus Nanus ‘Vulcano’ in a sunny site in well-drained, loose soil with average fertility. Many gladioli in the Nanus group are hardier, but deeper planting up to 6” encourages overwintering – another bonus for hard-working gardeners in colder zones.
